SaneBox and QuillReply overlap on one promise, "know when nobody replied," and diverge on everything else. SaneBox is a triage service for your whole inbox: it files, defers, and watches everything so less reaches you. QuillReply touches one email at a time, and only when you click.
SaneBox works through a standing connection to your mailbox. It sorts every incoming message into folders, and its reminder features watch your sent mail for threads that never got an answer. To their credit, SaneBox's published data policy says its analysis works from headers rather than reading message bodies, and the company has been around long enough to be trusted by a lot of people. It is still a service connected to everything, all the time, on a subscription that runs $7 to $36 per month.
QuillReply has no standing connection to anything. There is no account link to your mailbox, no background sorting, and nothing watching your sent mail. You arm a follow-up on the thread you care about, your own browser checks it on the day you chose, and the reminder files into your task manager with a chase already drafted in your voice.
| QuillReply | SaneBox | |
|---|---|---|
| Connection to your mailbox | None; reads only the open email at your click | Standing account connection analyzing all incoming and sent mail (headers, per their policy) |
| What it does all day | Nothing until you click | Continuously files and defers your incoming mail |
| No-reply detection | Per thread, on the date you chose, checked in your browser; out-of-office does not count | Watches sent mail for unanswered threads (paid features) |
| Where the reminder lands | Apple Reminders, Google Tasks, Obsidian, or Things 3, title and due date suggested from the email | Back in your inbox and folders |
| AI drafting | Full replies in your voice; corrections stick | None; SaneBox is triage, not writing |
| Whole-inbox triage | Not what it does | The whole product, and it works in any client on any device |
| Price | Free during beta; simple pricing at launch | $7 (Snack), $12 (Lunch), $36 (Dinner) per month, features gated by tier |
Volume. If your problem is two hundred messages a day and you want most of them filed before you ever see them, that is exactly what SaneBox does, in every mail client on every device, with no interface to learn. QuillReply does not triage your inbox and is not trying to. The two tools do not really compete; plenty of people could run both.
QuillReply is in beta ahead of its Chrome Web Store launch.
